SOWN in PCA Milestones

SOWN's new program for Parkinson's caregivers is featured. "'The SOWN program helps relieve that isolation [faced by caregivers] and the telephone format is convenient... Members don’t have to go anywhere or be pressured to get ready or worry. They can be at work or in their pajamas at home and still be part of the group. 2012 Aetna Foundation Grant Helps Grandparent-Headed Families Fight Obesity

SOWN received a seed grant from the Aetna Foundation to launch Philly Families Eat Smart, an innovative health, wellness and physical fitness initiative that addresses the higher rate of obesity in grandparent-headed families. 60% of low-income African American children in Philadelphia are obese, as opposed to about one in three children nationwide. Furthermore, children raised by grandparents are 34% more likely than their peers to be overweight.
